North Hempstead residents will be able to safely dispose of hazardous waste and other materials at a special town event on Saturday.

The “Stop Throwing Out Pollutants” event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Michael J. Tully Park, 1801 Evergreen Ave., New Hyde Park.

During this time, town residents can bring for disposal chemicals such as refrigerants, oil-based paints, photography chemicals, antifreeze and other materials unsafe to dispose of in household trash.

The town will be collecting unwanted prescription medication, but not needles or other medical waste.

Residents can also bring papers, which will be shredded on site and later recycled into other products.

The town will hold another disposal event in Port Washington on Nov. 4.
