New bus service for Longwood schools en route
Come this fall, the Longwood School District will be getting new school bus service, including school buses equipped with added safety improvements, district officials said.
As part of the new contract with Suffolk Transportation Services Inc. and East End Bus Lines, buses will include cameras and child check-mate alarms to prevent children from being left behind on buses.
The transportation contract for the 2013-14 school year was put up for bid in the spring and won by Atlantic Express/Amboy Bus Company, the district’s longtime bus company. When the owners of the company announced plans to stop servicing Suffolk County, the contract was assigned to the other two companies.

Suffolk Transportation Services Inc. will handle larger buses and East End Bus Lines will provide smaller buses and vans.
As part of the move, Suffolk Transportation Services Inc. will expand its Coram lot and look to hire drivers from the Atlantic Express/Amboy Bus Company depots in Suffolk that are scheduled to close.
The new bus service will be running by the start of the coming school year, according to the release.
