New Huntington Town program to contact officials
The Town of Huntington Tuesday unveiled an Internet-based system that gives residents a quick and easy way to send officials questions and seek information.
Town officials are launching the system — called Huntington at Your Service — in an effort to keep up with communication and technology advances, officials said. The service will be available for public use on March 1.
“People communicate in so many different ways today and they expect to be able to communicate with their government using their computers, their tablets and their smartphone,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said.
The service will provide two new ways of communication between the town and citizens — through the town’s website and from a smartphone — while also keeping the traditional avenues of communication such as phone calls and letters, Town Supervisor Frank Petrone said.
The system allows users to immediately reach a department, find answers to frequently asked questions, map the location of the issue they want addressed, send photos and track the progress of responses to a previous request.
“Whether reporting a streetlight in need of replacement, filing a complaint about a barking dog or merely seeking information on town programs, Huntington at Your Service markedly improves residents’ experience in dealing with their town,” Cuthbertson said.
The Town Board signed a three-year, $16,000 contract with QScend Technologies of Waterbury, Conn., to implement the “citizen request” program.
Videos explaining the system and how to use it can be found on YouTube, Facebook and at Huntingtonny.gov.
