The Patchogue Chamber of Commerce has created a buzz.

More than a month after revamping its website to garner more business attention, the action seems to be paying dividends.

Since the domain name switch to Patchogue.com from Patchoguechamber.com, officials said they have received positive publicity and several follow-up calls about events and other happenings in the area.

People can find the chamber more easily with the new domain, chamber executive director Gail Hoag said, adding that the site is user-friendly.

Mindy Skura, president of the chamber, said the website gets about 100,000 hits a month.

Several changes have accompanied the revamping, including the front page, which features a business directory and a community events calendar.

The switch came after chamber officials approached businesswoman Kelleen Guyer, owner of DesignHostPromote, who agreed to sell the domain name to the chamber for an undisclosed amount.

The site has job postings and pictures of chamber outings. News releases with links to a variety of local stories can also be found at the site.

And the chamber, which boasts more than 500 members, has accounts with social networking sites Twitter and Facebook, further promote itself while keeping the community informed.

“We’ve been event driven the past five years, but the direction we really want to go is to help our members grow and prosper, and the Internet is the way to go,” Skura said.
