Plandome Heights trustees consider a village flag
There will soon be a new flag flying over the tiny Village of Plandome Heights.
Village trustees on Monday moved forward on creating a flag for the 325-home village, which sits near Manhasset.
Trustees pondered two choices for the new village flag at their board meeting, opting for a forest green flag with the village’s logo surrounded by the words “Village of Plandome Heights” and “Incorporated 1929.”
Mayor Kenneth C. Riscica said he’s been thinking about creating a village flag since he joined the board as a trustee five years ago.
“I think it’s helpful to the village to have an identity that people recognize,” he said.
The village will purchase one flag with money from its parkland fund, flying it beneath the American flag on the village’s flagpole on Plandome Road, Riscica said.
“We’re going to build a prototype, put it on the flagpole, and see if the people salute it — figuratively,” he said.
If the prototype is a success, the village will make more copies of the flag, including one that will stand in Village Hall.
“I think it’s a small touch that people are going to notice and appreciate,” the mayor said.
