Long Islanders from all over flocked to Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai today to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

More than 250 men, women, boys and girls stripped down to their bathing suits and barrelled into the Long Island Sound, enduring its 54-degree temperatures for anywhere from a couple of seconds to 4 minutes, according to volunteer Kevin McDonald.

He said the Polar Plunge, held in Mount Sinai for the first time, brought in more than $35,000, all of which will be donated to the New York Special Olympics.
