Post-Sandy Long Beach flower bulb planting
Long Beach City officials are seeking volunteers to help the city recover from superstorm Sandy by planting flower bulbs around the city on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19-20.
The bulbs, which will bloom in the spring, will be planted by volunteers at locations directed by the city. Volunteers are asked to meet at Long Beach Ice Arena at 9 a.m.
“There are 30 parks throughout the city that are in need of planting,” City Council president Scott Mandel said in a statement. “This is going to be a terrific project for our community, and we are looking forward to seeing many residents assisting in our recovery process this weekend.”
Volunteers are asked to bring their own tools and dress appropriately for outdoor gardening, city officials said.
The ice arena is located at 150 West Bay Drive in Long Beach. Residents with questions are asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “bulb planting.”
