Relief fund aiding Long Beach Sandy victims
Some Long Beach and Lido Beach families will receive disaster relief funds as part of an effort to provide financial support to victims of superstorm Sandy.
The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund is providing financial assistance to affected families in Long Beach as well as Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and New Jersey. The fund is offering the assistance to families of children who attend 19 selected schools in those areas.
The sponsored schools in Long Beach are Blackheath Road Pre-Kindergarten Center and Lido Elementary School in Lido Beach and East Elementary School, Lindell Elementary School and West Elementary School in Long Beach.
The relief fund will give a $1,000 prepaid debit card to families from the selected schools, said a statement from a fund spokeswoman. The cards will be distributed from Jan. 10 to early March, the statement said. Cantor’s goal is to “support those in need,” the statement said.
Families have been notified about their eligibility for the program, the spokeswoman said. Every family from the selected schools is slated to receive one debit card, she said. The total aid will be $10 million, the statement said.
