The Riverhead Town board is seeking bids for a closed-circuit television system that would record activities at six different spots in its downtown municipal parking district -- from the lot next to Griffing Hardware on West Main Street to the lot near the Reginald Tuthill Funeral Home on East Main Street.

The town board approved issuing a bid document that calls for a flexible “user friendly” all-weather system that could be expanded in the future, but the board did not require that the system be capable of sending real-time images to town police headquarters, which had been discussed.

Such a system would be far more complicated and expensive to maintain and operate.

Each of the six locations is marked in the 24-page bid document, which must be completed and return to the Riverhead Town Clerk’s office by 11 a.m. Aug. 26.
