Roosevelt revitalization group gets $30G for disaster preparation
The nonprofit Roosevelt Community Revitalization Group plans to partner with the Roosevelt Fire District to build a neighborhood-based collaboration for disaster preparedness.
The Building Back Better Funder Collaborative, comprised of several organizations, has authorized a $30,000 grant to the revitalization group, said executive director Clara Gillens Eromosele, whose group sponsors the Roosevelt community farmers market.
The grant is a collaboration with the Roosevelt Fire Department and will be used to create a pilot program to provide disaster and emergency preparation workshops to residents and to create a system for emergency coordination between first responders and nonprofit service providers in the community.
The group expects to have workshops in late February or early March with the assistance of the fire district and the Nassau County Office of Emergency Managemen, Eromosele said.
Goals of the project include: creating a catalog of community residents with serious medical illnesses, including those dependent on medical devices, disabled and senior citizens; creating a protocol for immediate response to help the most vulnerable; establish a command center where nonprofits can work during emergencies; and create an evacuation plan.
