Sandy insurance-claim help offered in Lindenhurst, Babylon
Victims of Sandy who need help with insurance and other aspects of storm recovery are invited to meet with New York State’s Department of Financial Services Friday and Saturday.
Department representatives Friday will be at Lindenhurst Library, 1 Lee Ave., Lindenhurst, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Saturday, representatives will be at American Legion Hall, 22 Grove Place, Babylon Village, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Department’s representatives will help homeowners, renters and business owners with insurance-related issues, including answering their questions and helping them understand specific issues related to their insurance policies.
In Babylon Village, they will be joined by members of a local group, Babylon Helps, that provides assistance including hot meals and property cleanup, mental health services and seminars on rebuilding resources. Babylon Helps representatives will also be available to discuss community resources available to consumers.
Residents with insurance questions who unable to attend can call the DFS hotline at 1-800-339-1759 which is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Insurance information is also available on the DFS website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
