A conference on rebuilding and mold remediation in homes damaged by superstorm Sandy will be held Monday in Lindenhurst.

Adopt A House, an organization formed in Lindenhurst after the storm, is sponsoring the event. The group, which is awaiting nonprofit status, aims to connect families in need with those in the community offering help.

The informational “mini-conference” will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lindenhurst High School cafeteria. A representative from the company Planet People will discuss saltwater damage and demonstrate how to use an industrial fogger. An independent certified mold inspector will address health and safety when working in environments with mold.

The free event will also feature a former Habitat for Humanity coordinator who will discuss sustainable rebuilding and using environmentally friendly materials as a way to save money on energy costs. An environmental construction assessor who did work following Hurricane Katrina will speak about disaster area rebuilding and what residents can expect in the coming months and years.

In addition, a resident advocate will discuss federal, state and local programs for which residents might be eligible, including food, appliance, tax, financial and housing programs. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.

Attendees are asked to RSVP at eventbrite.com/event/5082371510/mcivte#. For more information, visit adoptahouse.org.
