Senior health fair, community policing meeting today

Nassau Legis. Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) will host a meeting on community policing and quality-of-life issues today at 7:30 p.m. in the Wantagh Public Library, 3285 Park Ave. in Wantagh.

Guests include commanding officers from the Nassau County Police Department’s First and Seventh precincts. The police will discuss recent burglaries, staffing, crime, traffic enforcement, neighborhood issues, problem-oriented policing, and the goals of law enforcement. Most of the meeting will be reserved for questions and answers.

* Hempstead Town will host a Senior Health and Wellness Fair today at Lido Beach Town Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More than a dozen local hospitals and medical providers will offer free health screenings for seniors including tests for cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, prostate cancer and more. Many vendors, sponsors, local retailers, and guest lecturers will also be at the event.

Senior citizens will be given a booklet for medical representatives to record test results. Medical representatives can check off columns for those seniors advised to follow up with their own doctor.
