Shelter Island, highway workers reach pact

Shelter Island’s town board has approved by a 4-1 vote a new three-year contract with its highway department workers.
The workers have been without a contract since Jan. 1, 2011. The new agreement calls for no pay hike in its first year, but instead provides a $500 bonus which does not count as a salary increase. It gives a 1.5 percent pay hike in the second year, and a 2 percent pay hike...
