Smithtown Youth Bureau starting community improvement project

Participants in a youth leadership program sponsored by the Town of Smithtown will take part in a community improvement project.

The free, three-week program is scheduled to start on Jan. 7 and is run by the Smithtown Youth Bureau. The deadline for enrollment is Thursday. To register, call 631-360-7595.

It is open to students in the Smithtown, Hauppauge, Kings Park and Commack school districts.

Students in the program will “work together and create a project to better the community,” the youth bureau said in a news release. The group will meet on Jan. 7, 14, and 28, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the town’s Horizons Counseling Center 161 E. Main St., Smithtown.
