The South Floral Park Village board voted unanimously last week to exceed the 2 percent tax levy cap, if necessary.

The village will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget on April 18 at 8 p.m. in Village Hall, 383 Roquette Ave. As of the board meeting on Thursday night, the budget had not been completed.

The board also approved using a $25,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program to help with the village’s residential rehabilitation program for fixed-income residents, Mayor Geoffrey N. Prime said.

The small individual grants would help residents make home improvements, such as repairing roofs, replacing windows and building handicapped ramps. Residents can apply to  the county and pay a $25 application fee, village officials said.

Sally Ponce, village administrator, clerk and treasurer, was sworn in at the meeting for four more years. She has been with village for 29 years, Ponce said.
