Southampton OKs second reviews on demolitions

Southampton’s town board has given its Landmark and Historic Districts board the ability to make a second review and make recommendations on requests for renewal of demolition permits once those permits expire.

The town demolition permits can be extended to 18 months, but if they are not used, a new application must be submitted.

The change allows the board to make a second review and recommendation on properties where it initially opposed demolition.

Until Tuesday’s 5-0 vote, the board did not have the power to comment after its initial review.

The town board said that new information could become available or circumstances might change over 18 months, which could affect the advisory board’s initial decision.
