Southampton reinstitutes housing task force

Southampton plans to reinstitute its Housing and Quality of Life Task Force following a unanimous council vote at Tuesday’s town board meeting.

The resolution, introduced by Councilman Christopher Nuzzi and Councilwoman Christine Preston Scalera, would form a committee to look at issues regarding illegal and substandard housing, code enforcement, land use issue, safety concerns, and other housing-related matters.

“It's important to regularly revisit policies and procedures related to code enforcement because the issues affecting our residents and neighborhoods are ever changing,“ Nuzzi said in a recent news release.

“The goal is to have better sharing of ideas and communication of information,“ Scalera said in the release.

The task force will include town employees and officials; including the town attorney, chief of police or his designee, the fire marshal, a town board liaison, and representative from code enforcement, land management’s division of building and zoning and environment, and from the justice court.
