Southampton School District to appoint new superintendent today
The Southampton School District has named Scott Farina, a longtime educator who last worked in Pennsylvania, as its new superintendent.
The board of education is expected to officially appoint him today at a special meeting at 6 p.m. in the Southampton Intermediate School, and the community is invited to meet Farina during an informal welcome reception immediately after.
Farina, who will be paid $215,000, joins Southampton with more than 20 years of experience in the field of education, having most recently served as an administrative consultant in Chester County, Pa. There, he had been working on an administrative reorganization proposal and providing professional development programs to the district’s administration on topics that included staff accountability, common core curriculum alignment and special education practices.
Before his consulting position, he worked as an assistant superintendent and high school principal in the Garnet Valley School District in Glen Mills, Pa., and as principal of East Hampton High School.
“I am thankful to the Board of Education for the extraordinary opportunity to lead Southampton Schools, and looking forward to working with all facets of the community to continue the focus on the development and well-being of students,” Farina said in a statement. “This is a time of great change in our public schools and communities, and I feel privileged to be returning to Long Island and helping lead a strong Southampton to even greater heights.”
The appointment of Farina is the culmination of a months-long search to succeed J. Richard Boyes, who is retiring at the end of this school year. There were no internal applicants for the position.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Farina to our community,” board of education president Heather McCallion said. “He brings with him the educational skill, experience and knowledge to take Southampton to the next level of success, as well as regional working experience that will serve him well in Southampton.”
