Valley Stream woman wins $1M a year for life

A stay-at-home mom from Valley Stream is the latest winner of the Win $1,000,000 a Year for Life scratch-off game from the New York Lottery, lottery officials said. The 37-year-old woman is one of 10 Long Island lottery game players who will celebrate big pay days when they collect oversized checks -- and very real prizes -- at a ceremony Thursday morning at the lottery customer service center in Garden City. -- JOHN VALENTI

Chief: Elwood student attack high priority

Suffolk County Police Chief of Department James Burke said Thursday morning every effort is being made to catch the man who grabbed a middle school student's waist from behind in Greenlawn only to be scared off when she punched him in the face. The Elwood Middle School student, 13, was on the way to her bus stop Tuesday morning when she was attacked, police said. -- JOHN VALENTI
