Substance abuse forums to be held throughout Nassau County

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano;'s administration will offer a series of community forums with a panel of experts on substance abuse treatment, recovery, criminal justice and law enforcement, answering questions on dealing with those close to you who have a substance abuse problem.

“You can get your loved one help and hope by attending one of our community forums,” Mangano said in a statement. “Better understand your loved one’s addiction. Hear solutions from a variety of professionals. And learn how you can save a life by administering a medication that reverses an opiate overdose.”

County staff will train and provide attendees older than 18 with nasal Narcan or Naloxone kits, which can stop the fatal effects of a heroin or prescription painkiller overdose.

Each forum will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. at the following locations and on the following dates:
July 24: NARCAN Training, Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Ave.
Aug. 1: Panel/forum, Williston Park Village Hall, 494 Willis Ave.
Aug. 8: Panel/forum, Lynbrook Knights of Columbus, 78 Hempstead Ave.
Aug. 22: Panel/forum, Hicksville Firehouse, 20 E. Marie St.

The first forum was held Thursday in Bellmore.

For more information or to register for a forum, call the Nassau County Police Department Office of Community Affairs at 516-573-7360 or email Elaikin@nassaucountyny.gov.
