Suffolk seeking ‘Senior of the Year’

Suffolk County’s Office for the Aging announced Friday that it is accepting nominations for its Senior Citizen of the Year award through March 14.

The award recognizes a county resident, age 60 or older, who has “significantly contributed to other seniors in a meaningful and important way, either as an advocate, role model, leader or volunteer,” according to a news release from County Executive Steve Bellone.

Nominations must include the person’s name, address, phone number and a brief description of their contributions.

Entries may be mailed to Suffolk’s Office for the Aging, P.O. Box 6100, Hauppauge, NY 11788, or faxed to 631-853-8225.

Public employees who provide services to senior citizens are not eligible; neither are prior award recipients.
