Brookhaven Town is offering youths in the Bellport area an opportunity to spend their summer midweeks shooting hoops, listening to music and, most importantly, staying away from drugs.

Live music, dance and free food will be available for young people ages 13 to 20 each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Martha Avenue Park in Bellport as part of the South Country Safe Summer Program.

Brookhaven Town along with the Suffolk County Police Department and the Boys and Girls Club of Bellport are sponsoring the program, which runs from 7 to 11:30 p.m. through Aug. 17. The events promise to be eventful and unforgettable, municipal officials say.

Drugs, alcohol and gambling are prohibited, officials say.

All bags are subject to search and plastics, glass, metal cans and bottles must be labeled in recyclable containers, officials say. Orderly conduct is expected.

For more information, contact Brookhaven Youth Bureau at 631-451-8011.
