Sustainable Long Island gets $130G grant to aid Long Beach recovery
Sustainable Long Island has been awarded $130,000 from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock toward its recovery efforts in Long Beach.
The Manhasset-based church’s grant will allow the Farmingdale-based organization to continue to help “every stakeholder in Long Beach on the road to recovery following superstorm Sandy,” said Sustainable Long Island’s executive director, Amy Engel.
Sustainable Long Island began working with Long Beach officials shortly after the storm.
The group played a key role in helping Long Beach gather community input regarding the rebuilding of its boardwalk, which is an ongoing project, Long Beach City Manager Jack Schnirman said.
Sustainable Long Island is working with the city on several recovery projects, including providing technical assistance to recovering businesses and creating a marketing campaign to bolster tourism in the city, the organization said in a statement.
