Swap of members on Lindenhurst planning board
The Village of Lindenhurst is replacing a departing planning board member with a longtime resident and business owner.
The departing planning board member is Lauren Van Kirk, 50, who village officials said is moving upstate. Van Kirk, who lost a bid for the Assembly in 2002, has worked for the Town of Babylon for 26 years, starting as a laborer in the highway department and currently as director of the Spangle Drive Senior Center.
Replacing her at an annual salary of $2,400 is Richard Green, 74. Green is retired, but for the past seven years has been working part-time for the Town of Babylon as a van driver for senior citizens.
Green owned a taxi and limousine service in Hauppauge and was in the ground transportation business for 50 years, he said. Green has lived in the village for 28 years. His term on the planning board expires in April 2018.
