The first female dean of Touro College’s law school will be formally installed next week during a public ceremony at the federal courthouse in Central Islip, college officials announced yesterday.

The Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center will host the academic convocation Oct. 11 to mark the arrival of Patricia E. Salkin, a legal scholar in government ethics and land-use planning who began working at Touro on Aug. 1. Judith Kaye, former chief judge of the state of New York, will deliver the keynote address.

“It is a privilege to assume leadership of a law school that so uniquely blends an intellectual understanding of the law with a real-life understanding of day-to-day legal practice,” Salkin said in a statement. “Working together with our outstanding faculty, I aim to further elevate Touro Law’s status as a model for law schools nationwide.”
