Vanderbilt video offers peek at new offerings
A promotional video playing on the website of the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum will give potential visitors a glimpse of what’s in store.
A five-person company of young Long Island filmmakers created the video.
The look at the estate, mansion, museum and new state-of-the-art planetarium intertwines exterior and interior views of the Vanderbilt Mansion and Museum with an interview with director of curatorial affairs Stephanie Gress in which she talks about museum founder William K. Vanderbilt II and his world travels. Also featured is footage from Vanderbilt’s travels in 1931 and from the first Vanderbilt Cup Races, which he established on Long Island in the first decade of the 20th century.
“We wanted website visitors from everywhere to be able to get a visual taste of the Vanderbilt in a few minutes,” said Lance Reinheimer, interim executive director. “This lively, well-made short film shows visitors a bit of our history and what we offer. We hope it entices them to come and explore this remarkable 43-acre estate.”
The video also highlights the Planetarium’s sophisticated new technology and star-projection system. The planetarium reopened this spring after 20 months of construction on a state-of-the-art $4 million renovation.
The video was produced by The Majors Productions, whose five partners — Nugent Cantileno, Carrie Ferrante, Robert LaRosa, Joshua Paige and Marc Riou — met when they attended film school at LIU Post.
