Woodsburgh to celebrate 100th anniversary
Woodsburgh residents will celebrate the village’s centennial anniversary this weekend.
The village board of trustees will host the 100th anniversary ceremony on Sunday at 3 p.m. Woodsburgh became an incorporated village on Nov. 8, 1912.
The hourlong ceremony will be held at the Culluloo Telewana Monument, on a small triangle of land between Keene Lane and Wood Lane. The monument was created by Abraham Hewlett in 1888 in recognition of the man he believed was the last of the Rockaway Iroquois tribe. The board is asking residents to take pictures of their homes and send items such as historical tokens and local paraphernalia to include in a time capsule. The time capsule would then be sealed before the ceremony.
Residents are asked to take their photos and items to Village Hall, 30 Piermont Ave. in Hewlett, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org before the ceremony.
