I am one of two reporters, along with Patrick Whittle, covering the Town of Hempstead. I also report on the villages of Hempstead, Freeport, Garden City, Malverne, Valley Stream and others. Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services has upgraded Hempstead Village’s bond rating from an A to an AA-, the agency’s second-highest credit rating.
The independent financial rating institution based the increase on the village’s general obligation serial bonds, pointing to a stable outlook on its overall finances and budgetary flexibility.

Two NY Rising meetings set
Two NY Rising Community Planning Committees are hosting public meetings about the state-sponsored New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program.
Residents from Island Park, Oceanside, Barnum Island and Harbor Isle are encouraged to attend a meeting Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oceanside School District office, at 145 Merle Ave., Room W-22 in Oceanside.

Nassau County Legis. Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) is forming an Elmont/Valley Stream public safety committee with the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association, officials said.
Solages and the Nassau PBA plan to join forces to talk about policing and enforcement issues in Elmont and Valley Stream since the Fifth Precinct became a community policing center last year.
