I am one of two reporters, along with Patrick Whittle, covering the Town of Hempstead. I also report on the villages of Hempstead, Freeport, Garden City, Malverne, Valley Stream and others. My goal is to report stories that interest residents in the town, while being informative, fair, accurate and balanced. I will be covering stories involving local politics, safety issues and economic development. I will also highlight community members and businesses making a difference or succeeding in the town. Hempstead Town senior Councilman Anthony Santino has announced he will no longer represent Baldwin, starting in January, when the town’s new council district map is scheduled to go into effect.

Hempstead Town officials joined doctors from Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology last week to celebrate the groundbreaking for a new state-of-the-art facility on formerly blighted property in the heart of Levittown.

The Town-Village Aircraft Safety Noise Abatement Committee will host a meeting Monday night to discuss concerns about low-flying planes and ways to control jet noise in communities near Kennedy Airport.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced $260,000 in funding for 23 projects, including a Roosevelt group, as part of the FreshConnect farmers market program, launched in 2011 to bring fresh produce from New York farms to underserved communities throughout the state.

State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with South Nassau Communities Hospital, will sponsor a free prostate cancer screening event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Roosevelt Library, 27 W. Fulton Ave., Roosevelt.

Garden City Village has been awarded more than $4.5 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency public assistance as reimbursement for the cost of debris removal after superstorm Sandy, federal officials said.
