Valley Stream’s Joe Taglic is out of the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament, falling in a semifinal episode that aired Tuesday night.

But all is not lost. The 17-year-old will take a $10,000 prize for making the semifinal round to his next academic stop, MIT.

Haven Avenue parking lot to close next weekend

The Haven Avenue commuter parking lot at the Port Washington station of the Long Island Rail Road will be closed next weekend.

The LIRR said the lot will be closed for 48 hours on Aug. 2 and 3, so crews can remove the Haven Avenue pedestrian overpass. That bridge was closed in April for safety reasons, officials have said, citing extensive corrosion.

Valley Stream resident Joe Taglic advanced Friday night in the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament.

Taglic, 17, finished second in the episode that aired Friday, earning one of the wild card spots in the semifinals. His semifinal episode will air Tuesday at 7 p.m. on WABC-TV.

Roundup: Home sales boost preservation funds

The East End’s land preservation funds continue to rake in money this year as a result of strong real estate sales.

The community preservation funds in the five eastern towns raised a combined $45.76 million in the first six months of 2014 -- about $2 million more than in the same period last year -- Assemb. Fred Thiele Jr. said.
