The first boating safety bill spurred by the fatal accident in which three children drowned last July Fourth in Oyster Bay has passed one house of the state Legislature.

With no one on the ballot Tuesday for the one available school board seat in Massapequa, filling the three-year term came down to write-in votes, which were counted manually until about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
