Firemen’s Fair set for Labor Day weekend

The Greenlawn Firemen’s Fair is scheduled for three days over the Labor Day Sunday.

The fair opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 and continues Aug. 29 and Aug. 30 starting at 6 p.m. The fair will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 31 but reopens at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. Admission is free.

Manorville girl, 13, reels in nearly 3-foot-long fluke

Last year, 13-year-old Allison Turbush pulled in about 20 fluke while on a fishing trip sponsored the Suffolk County Police Athletic League in Great South Bay, but none of them were keepers. She returned Wednesday for another try with the same group and reeled one catch of a lifetime.

New dock fees a success, village officials say

Northport’s new dock fees have been successful, according to village officials.

The board approved the increased fees, which were proposed by trustee Ian Milligan, in May. The goal was to attract more boaters to the waterside community.
