Village of Westbury to vet taxi dispatchers after 'issue'

The Village of Westbury will require taxicab dispatchers to submit to background checks, in a bid to better regulate the workers.

Previously, drivers of cabs or prearranged for-hire vehicles were subject to the background checks, including filing licensing and fingerprint records. The board approved the measure for dispatchers at its trustees meeting on Aug. 7.

Breast cancer screening for women 50 and older

Women ages 50 and older can attend a Sept. 18 breast cancer screening event in Westbury.

The screening, scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to noon, is to be held at the Westbury Recreation Center at 348 Post Ave.

The event is sponsored by Nassau County Legis. Laura Schaefer (R-Westbury).

The Nassau University Medical Center Mammography Van will provide the examinations.

Dublin Pub property in New Hyde Park sold for $750,000

The Dublin Pub has a new owner, more than a year after the New Hyde Park ex-rocker haunt was condemned by state liquor authorities and slated for auction.

Misha Haghani, whose firm Paramount Realty USA handled the short sale, said the former pub at 2002 Jericho Tpke. was sold Aug. 8 for $750,000.
