Hempstead Town’s animal shelter will participate in National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month by waiving adoption fees on Oct. 27.

The Great Neck Park District voted on Thursday to ban smoking at all park district facilities.
District commissioner Robert A. Lincoln Jr. said the resolution, which makes all park facilities smoke-free, originally came about at the request of some residents to ban smoking on the Village Green.
