Inaugural Town of Oyster Bay Polar Plunge gets 37-degree welcome

Brian Schiralli, already soaked by a steady rain, grabbed his Special Olympics coach’s hand, sprinted into frigid water and was already waist deep before declaring, “We are diving in.”

Without hesitation, Schiralli, who has Down syndrome, and his soccer, basketball, floor hockey and track coach of five years, Joe Branzetti, dove in headfirst.

Jack Sullivan pulled a dry-cleaning receipt from his pocket, dated March 20, 1996, to prove he waited for the right time to wear his tuxedo again.

Oyster Bay Town OKs contract for dredging sand around ramp

The Oyster Bay Town Board on Tuesday authorized Supervisor John Venditto to sign a $121,500 contract for dredging sand that has filled in around the Tappen Beach launching ramp.

The contract will be awarded to Amma Construction Corp. of Huntington Station, the lowest acceptable bidder.
