Hempstead officials plan to gather at the site of Charles Lindbergh’s historic flight to Paris on Monday to rally for the state to designate May 20 as “Trans-Atlantic Flight Day in New York.”
Assemb. Edward Ra (R-Franklin Square) intends to submit a resolution calling for the designation. Lindbergh flew to Paris from Roosevelt Field on May 20, 1927, the first solo nonstop trans-Atlantic flight.

Uniondale High School’s Rhythm of the Knights show choir was named “Most Promising New Group” at the Fame Show Choir National Championship Series Finals in Chicago April 26-27.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced Monday that in recognition of Memorial Day, the Nassau County Rifle and Pistol Range will offer free entry for veterans and active military on May 26 during regular operating hours, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Free coffee, beverages and snacks also will be available.

Veterans Affairs will hold a daylong Information Day and Enrollment Event Saturday for Vietnam veterans.

The Levittown Community Council, in partnership with the Town of Hempstead, will host the seventh annual Earth Day cleanup Saturday.

Volunteer arborists removed 20 trees and grinded 25 stumps at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on Arbor Day.
The Long Island Arboricultural Association on March 23 brought about 100 volunteers who worked for eight hours, donating an estimated $50,000 worth of labor.
