Dog's death inspires Massapequa boy to create charity

When Sean Posner’s 7-year-old dog, Moose, was put to sleep in October 2011 after suffering from bone cancer, the Massapequa boy decided to honor his furry friend by giving back in his honor.

“I loved this dog,” Sean said. “We were very close.”

Penelope's Odyssey to hold bone marrow drive in Sea Cliff

To Lori Schneider, Penelope Ruderman is more than just a daughter -- she’s a warrior.

Ruderman was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, when she was only 3 years old. In 2011, she received a successful bone marrow transplant that helped put her into remission. Penelople, now 7, is still in remission today.

It was a seal release that went swimmingly.

Birdie, a gray seal pup who was rescued April 17 in Far Rockaway, Queens, returned to her natural home Saturday morning during a release event under the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays.
