Principal goes to the wall for fundraiser

West Hempstead High School Principal Dan Rehman had been standing on a small stool inside the school’s lobby for more than two hours last Friday when a student kicked it out from under his feet. LI boys go bald, raise $10G for late friend at St. Baldrick's event

Chunks of hair fell from Alex Lessman’s shoulders as the 11-year-old fidgeted in a chair at Howard B. Mattlin Middle School in Plainview.

But Alex wasn’t alone. He recruited 23 of his friends to get their heads shaved Tuesday, raising $10,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation as part of the second-annual head-shaving event for the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District.

Doctors to highlight cancer prevention, treatment developments

Cancer specialists will be at Stony Brook University Saturday for a discussion about the latest advances in the prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment of several types of cancer.

Hofstra students lose hair, raise funds for St. Baldrick's

More than 60 participants got their heads shaved at Hofstra University on Wednesday and helped raise more than $34,000 in the fight against children's cancer.

The money raised will go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding research toward the cure of childhood cancers.
