The Port Jefferson Village Board has scheduled a public hearing Tuesday to discuss a proposed master plan aimed at updating village codes and rejuvenating the struggling Upper Port business district.
The comprehensive plan has been modified since an earlier version that was discussed at a public meeting last summer. Many residents at that meeting said they opposed a section of the plan that would allow parking garages.
The new version calls for additional surface parking area and limits garages to being built only if there is no other way to add parking.
Other sections of the plan call for updated zoning to encourage new business and residential development in Upper Port -- an area near the Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson train station. The comprehensive plan is posted on the village website at portjeff.com.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Village Center, 101 E. Broadway. The village board meets at 5 p.m.
