Thanksgiving, the most homey of holidays, isn't always enjoyed at home. That's especially so this year, following the upheaval and ongoing rebuilding after superstorm Sandy.
Many L.I. restaurants will serve traditional, and not-so-traditional, Thanksgiving meals. Here's a sampler of places to go. Call ahead to reserve.
ANDIAMO in Mineola plans a three-course, fixed-price dinner for $34.95 a person, served noon to 10 p.m. It includes a choice of butternut squash bisque or green salad, oven-roasted turkey with rosemary stuffing, cranberry compote and glazed sweet potatoes, and a dessert sampler with pumpkin cheesecake, "molten" chocolate cake, and a caramelized Cognac apple purse. CHADWICKS AT THE STATION in Rockville Centre will serve Thanksgiving a la carte from 2 to 7 p.m. Chef Art Gustafson's starters are both traditional (butternut squash soup, $7) and eclectic (tandoori flatbread, $8). A brined and roasted turkey ($25) comes with dried cranberry-orange compote, sausage-apple-walnut stuffing, Yukon Gold potato puree, whipped candied sweet potatoes and an autumn vegetable medley. Other entrees: prime rib ($32) and gemelli with lobster ($26). Several dessert choices, among them chocolate tart, pumpkin cheesecake and upside-down apple tart ($8 each). HEMINGWAY'S AMERICAN BAR & GRILL in Wantagh staggers seatings between 1 and 5:30 p.m. One way to go is with the three-course traditional roast turkey prix-fixe, at $32.95 a person, which includes soup or salad, roasted turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, mixed vegetables, sweet and mashed potatoes, followed by dessert. There's also an a la carte menu featuring such mains as roast turkey ($21.95), pumpkin ravioli ($17.95) and pork osso buco ($19.95). VITTORIO'S in Amityville will be serving its regular dinner menu in addition to a number of Thanksgiving specials, from noon to 10 p.m. Entrees include turkey with cornbread stuffing, giblet gravy, broccoli and cranberry sauce ($24), crab-stuffed salmon ($28) and herb-roasted prime rib ($28 for 10 ounces, $34 for 20 ounces). Sides for the table ($9, serves two or three) include truffled mac and cheese, pancetta-braised Brussels sprouts, candied yams and green beans with crispy shallots, butternut squash gratin and chipped, baked or roasted potatoes.
