Wrestlemania 28 predictions: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
With the talent pool being so shallow on the Smackdown side, WWE has been trying hard to get Sheamus over as an A-list attraction on the blue brand. So all indications are that this match will be the coronation of “The Great White” as Smackdown’s new flag bearer. As talented as both men are—especially Bryan—I’m not expecting a lot out of this match, which likely won’t last more than nine minutes or so.
It’s been five years since the Royal Rumble winner has gone on to win the title at Wrestlemania. Undertaker was last to do it when he beat Edge in 2007. Sheamus will break that streak even though Bryan is a more effective heel with the title around his waist. Sheamus is held in high regard by the WWE and this will be his all-important Wrestlemania moment. He will continue to feud with Bryan after ‘Mania, but look for Randy Orton to enter the title picture to freshen it up.
I'm pleasantly surprised Bryan's reign has lasted this long, though he hasn't always been portrayed as a champion should be. No Royal Rumble winner has won the title at WrestleMania since 2007, and I think that will change here. I have a feeling Bryan's job at WrestleMania is to make Sheamus, and I see a new champion being crowned.
Bryan as a heel has never worked for me. He needs to drop the belt so he can be revived as a babyface. Sheamus has been a pleasant surprise as a fan favorite, and I guarantee his title run as a good guy will be much more successful than what he did as an antagonist.
