It's one of those election days that goes under the radar. Turnout at the polls to vote on village races is almost always scant, especially when many races go uncontested. In fact, there are only four contested mayoral races today (Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, South Floral Park and Williston Park).

But the election of village officials today in some sense will have a more direct impact on the quality of life of village residents than any larger election day.

The future of local taxes, economic development, housing -- much of it tied to zoning that's controlled on the local level -- will be determined by votes today.

So if you live in a village with elections today, get out there and vote.

Find out the results here after the polls close at 9 p.m.
