Monday's summer solstice, which began at 7:28 a.m., is being accompanied by temperatures in the 90s. As summer is officially starting with such high temperatures, it can only mean one thing . . . time to go swimming! While Long Islanders mark the longest day of the year, the Town of Hempstead is kicking off an informational campaign reminding and educating residents of pool safety. "The small cost of an alarm, may save a child's life," Kate Murray, the Hempstead Town supervisor warns.
