A small section of the William Floyd Parkway in the Mastic-Shirley area will be closed next weekend so that the Long Island Rail Road can repair a grade crossing, a spokesman said Thursday.

Some of the concrete at the crossing for the Montauk branch has deteriorated.

“This is being done in the interest of improving the safety of the public…there is a need for renewal,” the spokesman said.

The work, timed to create as little disruption as possible, will start on Friday, March 3, at 10 p.m. and finish by 5 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, the spokesman said.
