MTA holds (glitchy) on-line fare hike forum
Well, at least the MTA tried to listen to New Yorkers.
A much-heralded online forum on the MTA's proposed fare hike was hamstrung by various technical glitches Monday, leaving some users unable to put in their two cents worth.
The MTA blamed the problems on a third-party vendor, and said they were hoping to have the problems fixed before the next 'Webinar'.
Participants who could join the discussion at the MTA site's Webinar section saw presentations from MTA staff.
On-line viewers could also write in with questions for the MTA . The Webinar was the last chance for concerned riders to sound off on proposed fare and toll hikes.
Eight public hearings and one interactive in-person forum were held in November on the fare and the MTA's four-year financial plan. The plan includes a fare and toll increase expected to increase revenue by 3.85%, down from an earlier 6.5% proposed increase, the MTA said. The MTA and governor announced in November that the base fare will remain at $2.
The plan will combat $6 billion in expected future deficits while increasing service to meet demand, the MTA said.
