All eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway will close at Exit 44S between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for an estimated further three weeks as the state Department of Transportation completes repairs on the aging Route 135 bridge over the LIE.

The bridge, near Syosset, is one of 13 being repaired on Long Island this summer under one contract to help maintain their structural integrity and longevity.

Circles have been painted on the ground to aid workers with the nighttime placement of construction barrels and to make setup of the lane closing operation more efficient and safer, DOT spokeswoman Eileen Peters said.

Drivers have been notified of the closure via overhead electronic signs. Those who don't use alternate routes will experience delays as they are directed to a detour route onto Route 135 to Old Country Road eastbound, then back on to the LIE via the eastbound south service road.
