A Roosevelt man was killed Tuesday night when he pulled over the tractor trailer he was driving on the Long Island Expressway and then was caught underneath it when it accidentally moved.
Nassau County police said a highway patrol officer came upon a 2013 Tractor Trailer at about 8:22 p.m. Tuesday in North Hills. The vehicle was parked on the westbound shoulder of the Long Island Expressway between exits 33 and 34 with its hazard lights on.
The officer didn’t see the driver in the vehicle, then found Frederick E. Johnson, 54, unresponsive underneath it.
A county medic pronounced Johnson dead at the scene at 8:45 p.m., police said. Investigators performed a brake and safety check on the vehicle at the scene and believe the parked truck suddenly moved, pinning Johnson.
Police do not believe there was any criminality involved. The investigation is ongoing.
