Ramps for the Wantagh State Parkway in Wantagh, Levittown and Hicksville will be closed or partially closed during overnight hours this week so crews can replace signal detector loops, the state Department of Transportation said.
Closures began Tuesday and will continue through Friday, the state agency said.
Weather permitting, the traffic signal vehicle detector loops — which communicate with the signal controller — will be reinstalled between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Work began Tuesday on the south and north ramps from the parkway to Sunrise Highway in Wantagh.
The remaining work includes:
- On Wednesday, the northbound parkway ramp to Route 24, Hempstead Turnpike, in Levittown.
- On Thursday, the northbound parkway ramp to westbound Old Country Road in Hicksville.
- On Friday, the northbound parkway ramp to eastbound Old Country Road, also in Hicksville.
Single lanes could remain open “if it is possible to perform the work safely for motorists and workers,” the agency said in a news release.
Drivers will be warned via overhead and electronic road signs; alternate routes are advised.
