JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP - A Jersey City man has been charged after an accident on Route 15 killed three people, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Authorities say 37-year-old Luis Torres was traveling south on Route 15 last night when he suddenly swerved and left the roadway. The Ford Explorer overturned and ejected several of the nine passengers inside the vehicle.

Two passengers, 62-year-old Lucila Colon and 11-year-old Tevia Booth, were pronounced dead at the scene. Julissa Colon, 36, was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where she died. Her unborn child did not survive.

The driver and remaining passengers were transported to St. Clare's-Dover Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

After an investigation, police charged Torres with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and assault by auto.
